Dear Faith,
I can’t believe it’s been seven years.
The day you were born, St. Patrick’s Day, was very scary at first. None of the nurses (at the redneck hospital we later DID NOT deliver your brother in) believed I was in hard labor, so by the time the anesthesiologist FINALLY came to give me the epidural, I sat up and told him I couldn’t hold still because I could feel the baby’s head. I laid on my side and you were out in one push- luckily the doctor made the flying leap to catch you.
The cord was around your neck.
You were blue.
I didn’t notice it at first, because I was freaked out from the unintended ‘natural childbirth’ (OUCH- just…OUCH) but when I asked why they weren’t giving you to me, and then I saw they were all crowded around you and more doctors were rushing in, I knew something was wrong.
I remember watching you turn pink, from your heart outward- and it wasn’t until I watched you turn pink that I realized you had been blue.
To this day, I believe you are just a little bit closer to the angels because you got to see them for a minute or two that day.
Your sisters are in high school and middle school now, and you were my last baby girl but now you are growing out of ‘little girl’ and into ‘girl’ and I wonder how the years go by so quickly. (In motherhood, the days are long, but the years are short.)
Your little brother worships you and I am so proud of how sweet you are to him.
I love that you read with me in bed at night, and help in the garden, and love to clean. You’re funny, and the kindest person I’ve ever met, and I love that you not only make pictures for me all the time, but occasionally have ‘picture sales’ to raise funds for new Webkinz or Littlest Pet Shop Pets. (And I love that when someone asks you the price you just bat the eyelashes of your huge blue eyes and tell them ‘just whatever you want to pay’ so you’re making like a buck a painting.) My little entrepreneur… I think the Gal Sprouts cupcake sales season turned you into like a Ponzi scheme chick. Awesome. You go, girl!
Happy seventh birthday, my sweet angel baby girl. You will always be my lucky shamrock fairy.
