Where Mediocrity Kicks Perfection's Ass

That’s what they’re calling it on twitter (or #snOMG haha), and it’s perfect.

Here’s a picture of our house, during the *first* blizzard last weekend, which dumped two feet of snow on us. Then, because my mom’s birthday dinner had to be canceled but I already had all the food, we had a little Blizzard Party with a few good friends/neighbors who can walk to our house:

I never get to be all Martha-y and we never use the formal dining room except on Christmas and Thanksgiving, so it was nice to have an excuse! Plus, we all drank a ton and played ‘Apples to Apples’ (kids table was in the kitchen, yo!) and it was a blast.

(I put Snowpocalypse/Blizzard photo album on Facebook if you want to check it out.)

Here are a few more storm photos:

This is the cute little pair of snowpeople my kids made ‘between blizzards.’

The kids and I finished a 1500 piece puzzle inside of 48 hours, which is how you can tell we were bored.

But you know what?

Ok, I am going to get all Hallmarky for just one little second (sorry)- but this whole blizzard thing has been kinda fun. We’re all in our pajamas all day:

…this is Bobby and Faith (my 2 youngest, because my teen girls would HURL before they’d let me take pix in their PJs…) happily playing school together (read: 1st grader bosses preschooler around and he obeys like a puppy…) and yeah, yeah, I really need to take that little Christmas tree down from his room what with it being FEBRUARY and all…cripes.)

My husband and I did sneak out for drinks and dinner at the local bar Doc’s in between the blizzards, which was super nice.

We can’t GO anywhere so everyone is just kind of in a chillaxin mood- we have a warm fire, movies and games (and Facebook haha) and soon enough I’ll be rushing the 4 kids to their 4 schools and running around like a chicken with my head cut off, so I am just sort of enjoying the forced relaxation!

Who knows when it will happen again, and I know we’ll all always remember it. (“Remember that time we had back to back blizzards and we were snowed in for a whole week?!”)

(a view of the ‘porch furniture’ on our back deck!)

The main advantage of back to back blizzards dumping 3 feet of snow on you? The kids will be in school til July.

I love the thought of you getting all Martha Stewart! I love having the time to do thinks like that. I was actually a *little* jealous of you all because we haven't had a good snow day all year. I mean we got 14 inches two days ago and still had school! Enjoy it while you can!

Wow… despite the mountains of snow (or what CNN was calling snow-zilla), sounds like you guys made the most of it — especially impressed with the puzzle, those things drive me crazy (Scrabble, though I totally kick ass)!

This weekend I am pretending is snow daze and staying hibernated in the basement, avoiding human contact.

By the way, your house looks beautiful!

    I LOVE SNOW! (deep breath)

We had our mini snow storm, which wasn't half as cool as yours and I didn't get to invite loads of people round! What a FAB idea!!

We did get to stay home all together though for a few days and I loved it. Now it's just freaking cold without snow, which just sucks. Although it is good hot chocolate weather….oh yummm.

I would give anything to be cooped up inside for a week. I'd pass on the snow, though. Our normal average snowfall is 18-20 inches for the whole season, and so far this year I think we are sitting at 55 inches total as of today. I haven't seen the grass in my yard since mid-December. Yikes.

I am so jealous. I miss the snow. It slows life down. All I have here is beautiful 70 degree weather and palm trees and healthy people who just go, go, go.

How long would it take me to get there by train?

  9. I agree it has been fun in a pajamas-all-day-no-makeup kinda way. But that is it. I'm hiking to the nearest liquor store this afternoon.

Your house is freakin amazing. It looks like something from a movie set. Okay, I will stop drooling now. We don't have houses like that in Las Vegas. There are some nice mansions but nothing classic like yours. This town has pretty much been raped of any history it once had.

Anyway, I am glad the snow is working for you, the news has made it sound pretty bad out there. Your kids are absolutley beautiful. I would kill right now for a reason for us all to stay in our pj's at home all day and for my kids to know how to play school (or anything for that matter).

Oh, I love snow! But, I am sitting here writing from Canada where your pictures look like Spring to us – lol. I guess I would be in shock right now if I could see anything green outside! Hang in there – pretty soon it will melt and everything will be all sloppy…

Lovely pictures of your home and children!

    Take care!

We have that much snow but we get it in incremental snow falls of 3-4 inches. No big dumps until March and then it melts in a day or two. We have yet to have the schools close but then we are used to a lot of snow. I don't know if I could handle another week being stuck in the house with my kids but it would be nice to slow down for day or two.

We had that much snow, and more last winter. And then this year? NONE. And you know, for all the bitching that everyone did about the snow last year, I've been hearing "Man where is the snow?!" And I want to slap people. I had enough of it last year to last a couple winters.

I have pictures from last year where you could barely see the swingset in the back yard there was so much snow.

Anyway I hope that you don't get snowsick. And I hope they plow the streets for you eventually!!
